Invite to Innovation: Penn Health-Tech Bridges Gaps in Medical Device Ecosystem

How do you turn an idea into an invention, a discovery into a device, or a project into a product that will impact how we care for children and drive innovation? Whether it’s finding funding, partnering with the right team members, or accessing the most effective resources, researchers and entrepreneurs face many barriers before they’re able to bring an idea to the bedside. With the launch of the new Center for Health, Devices, and Technology (Penn Health-Tech), faculty members at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia now have the opportunity to access a main ingredient that helps to break through many of those barriers: connections.

CHOP Research In the NewsSeptember marks National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and this year at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, we kick-started the commemorative period on the heels of exciting news about breakthroughs in pediatric cancer immunotherapy research. Oncology investigators at CHOP also got a big boost in research funding from Hyundai’s nonprofit organization, Hope on Wheels. And that’s only the beginning: Since September marks the return of the football season, we’re thrilled to share the latest headlines on how the National Football League (NFL) is helping to drive concussion research.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation Awards Children’s Hospital More than $650,000

St. Baldrick's FoundationMonrovia, Calif.-based St. Baldrick’s Foundation recently announced $699,186 in grants to one consortium and three cancer researchers at CHOP.

CHOP Cancer Experts Awarded Alex’s Lemonade Stand Grants

Alex's Lemonade StandAs part of its mission to find “a cure for all children with cancer,” Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation recently announced more than $7 million in new grants to researchers around the country, including four at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Children’s Hospital investigators Garrett Brodeur, MD, Michael Hogarty, MD, Richard Aplenc, MD, and Robert Schnepp, MD, PhD, all received grants from the organization, for a total of $800,000 in cancer research funding.
