On the Record: Student Reporters Celebrate Community Health Leaders

As part of the educational program Healthy NewsWorks, young journalists from the Highland Park Healthy Hawk, the East Norriton Bulldog Bulletin, and other student-run newspapers interviewed clinicians and researchers about some of today’s most pressing health topics from gun violence to preventing sports injuries to city health programs for the uninsured.

Optimal Antibiotic Use Wanes Without Clinician Feedback

Clinicians must select antibiotics carefully, in order to maintain their effectiveness and limit antimicrobial resistance. Judicious use of antibiotics has important health benefits for children especially because they are prescribed so frequently, usually for outpatient acute respiratory tract infections.

PolicyLab Reports on Students Involved With Child Welfare

A report released in June by PolicyLab revealed that 17 percent of Philadelphia public school students have been involved with child welfare and it described the educational barriers that these students face.

Antibiotic Education Improves Prescription Practices

A recent study of an “antimicrobial stewardship” program by Children’s Hospital researchers found that offering pediatricians education, and auditing their prescription patterns, can encourage them to choose more appropriate antibiotics for children with common respiratory infections.
